Study Aesthetics with Specialisation Art at IEGS

IEGS genuinely believe that everyone has an innate creativity. When you study the Art Programme you will be challenged both academically as well as creatively during your three years. You will discover that the school’s teachers have both the skill and patience to help you fulfill your unique creative potential. After you have completed the Aesthetics Programme at IEGS you will have the possibility to study a variety of arts and humanities courses at university.

The application procedure

In order to become a student at the Aesthetics Programme with Specialisation Fine Art at IEGS you need to:

  • Apply as normal through Gyantagningen in Stockholm county
  • Attend an interview at IEGS where you discuss a portfolio of Art work.

Fine Arts specialization

When you are studying the Fine Art specialisation, you will be encouraged to think about the significance of art and visual culture, both in a historical perspective and within the contemporary society. You will develop your ability to interpret, analyse and discuss a range of different kinds of art work. You will also learn to make critical evaluations of art work, based on a sound understanding of contemporary thinking in art history and analysis. Our understanding will be developed within the local, regional and international context.

It is believed at IEGS that the ability to contextualize art is fundamental to understanding the creative process. IEGS also believes that it is of the same importance to ensure that you develop the fundamentals associated with good artistic practice across a wide range of media:

  • As a student at the programme you develop a working understanding of composition, perspective and colour theory. At the same time you also develop basic practical skills across multiple genres and dimensions.
  • At the same time as your confidence and control develop, you will be encouraged to explore your creativity, to be original and to hone your own personal expression and style.

Possibilities after the Arts Programme

After completing the programme you will have developed skill such as the ability to solve problems in a creative way and to think laterally. You will also gain an advanced range of skills specific to your focus area.

These are skills are natural to designers and artists and therefore makes you an attractive asset, especially within the creative industries sector.

In this sector it is valuable to have the ability to think differently, formulate questions and solve problems. More specifically, you will be critically aware of self and external factors under different kind of circumstances, have developed good interpersonal skills, possess the ability to be reflective, be resourceful and have a greater appreciation of the benefits of diversity.

The programme also makes you develop excellent skills in research and the ability to show evidence of project planning and management through your artistic endeavor.

You will also learn to make better oral and written presentations in English as well as learn more about IT, in particular using a range of creative software programmes. The programme also leads to you possessing excellent self-motivation and self-management skills. In addition to this you will be able to work both independently or as part of a team and you will become an experienced and practical decision maker.

Why should I choose IEGS?

IEGS is perfectly placed to study Fine Arts, because the school’s location in the centre of Södermalm creates a close proximity to a range of high quality art galleries, museums and theaters.

There is a dedicated Art room and 3D workshop at Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet. The school is also developing a Mac suite as a space where you can work with industry standard creative software if you are interested in new media and technologies.

Internationella Engelska Gymnasiet is located in Södermalm, Stockholm. You can choose to study the IB programme or one of four Swedish national programmes at the school. Behörighet

För att komma in på Estetiska programmet krävs godkända betyg i svenska eller svenska som andraspråk, engelska, matematik och i minst nio andra ämnen från grundskolan. De nio ämnena är valfria. Här kan dock även färdighetsprov förekomma.
